Project Step Off
Point Assist would like to announce our new Community Engagement Program, Project Step Off: Personal Development through Adventure bringing together the concepts of adventure and experience to support young individuals in achieving their potential.
As an adventure travel guide, I am fortunate to experience new and exciting places on a regular basis. And while my 25 year career of elite level military service has also afforded me many opportunties, I remain aware that while I was away, doing my job, I missed important parts of my own children’s lives. And I know friends and comrades have experienced the same things. When we talk about military service, we’re not only talking about the serving member. It’s a career that involves the whole family. And it’s the families that bear the cost.
This project facilitates the support of children of veteran families as they build valuable life skills.
Piloting in Cambodia, Point Assist will accompany two young adults on a life changing adventure immersing themselves in the Cambodian countryside, culture and history, learning resilience and key adventure skills and gaining valuable work experience as sociology research assistants.
This project gives back to veteran families and we are proud to be involved.
But we can’t do this alone.
As the ancient proverb highlights, it takes a village to raise a child.
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from potential sponsors to partner with us in this project. If this is something you or your organisation would like to be involved with please get in touch with us to find out more.
Our aim, upon completion of a successful pilot trip, is to build an ongoing programme with scope to expand frequency and destinations. The opportunity to travel, experience a new culture, learn life skills and grow as a person are immense and something that should be available to all.
